Cedar Cove Animal Habitat

These are pictures from 2 outings to the Cedar Cove Animal Habitat in Louisburg Kansas.

This is Cheyanne. She stared at my kid the whole time we were there. Makes a father a little nervous.

This is a 3 month old Caracal that is lounging in the open display case.

This is Voodoo. She purrs...loudly!

The big guy! His paws are as big as your head.

Shawdow the wolf. He is about 11 years old, and got kicked out of his pack.

GO DUCKS!!!

The Anaheim Ducks won last night, beating the San Jose Sharks 4-0. They lead the series 3-1. One more time boys!

Library Finds...

I saw this at the library, and just picked it up.

I'm glad I did. Just awesome!

So I finished the book by JM Boice "Gospel of Grace". It was good, but not as deep as I thought it would be.
Also, he made some sweeping generalizations about church at large that I don't agree with.

I went to the library to pick up a CD, and what else did I find?

Oh yeah BABY! The third Stephen Lawhead book of the King Raven trilogy! I had put a hold on it before it came out, and I must have been high on the list, cause it only came out back in Feb.

As with the previous two books, I plowed through this one in a few days. Actually, I could have gone through faster, but I wanted to "savor" the yarn. Needless to say, I enjoyed the story. Maybe if I see the set on sale somewhere(for less than Bran paid the king) I will pick up the set.

It also keeps the door open for me to read more of SH's books. I loved "Byzantium", but was less than enthused for "Patrick". I liked the story, but felt that like he rushed the ending of Patrick...

About my namesake...

Papias wrote in the first half of the second century and was one of the early leaders of the Christian church. Church historian Eusebius calls him the "Bishop of Hierapolis" (modern Pamukkale, Turkey) which is 22 kilometers from Laodicea near Colossae (see Colossians 4:13).

His “Interpretations of the Sayings of the Lord” (his word for "sayings" is "logia") in five books, would have been a prime early authority in the exegesis of the sayings of Jesus. His treatise, however, has utterly disappeared, and is known only through fragments quoted by later writers, with approval by Irenaeus in "Against Heresies", and later with scorn by Eusebius of Caesarea in "Ecclesiastical History."

Eusebius calls Papias "a man of small mental capacity" (Hist. Eccl. 3.39.13), who mistook the figurative language of apostolic traditions. Whether this was so is difficult to judge without the text available; it is thought that perhaps Eusebius objected to Papias' premillenialism (chiliasm), which by the fourth century had been supplanted by the common church doctrine of amillennialism.

It was thought that Papias was "a hearer of John, and companion of Polycarp, a man of old time." According to another tradition, Papias shared in the martyrdom of Polycarp, (c. AD 155). Eusebius, who places him with Clement and Ignatius under the reign of Trajan, suggests that he wrote about AD 115. In all likelihood, he wrote his treatise in the first quarter of the second century. What remains today are only fragments of his Treatise quoted in the writings of Irenaeus and Eusebius.
